How to Approach Businesses for Sponsorship

How to identify the right businesses and reach out in a way that encourages a real response.

Look for shared audience, not just deep pockets

The best sponsor is a business whose customers are your attendees. A local outdoor store and a fishing tournament are a natural fit; the same store might ignore a gala.

Find the right person

A message to a general inbox rarely lands. Spend five minutes identifying the owner, marketing lead or community-relations contact. A specific name and a one-line reference to their work beats a template blast.

Lead with a link, not an attachment

Send businesses to a public sponsor page they can browse on their phone between meetings. A clean page with every package, price and benefit answers most of their questions before your call.

Make it easy to say yes

Offer a recommended tier, name a realistic deadline and suggest a short call rather than a yes-or-no. Yes-to-a-conversation is the goal of the first message.
